The Kids4Forests project aims to become a seed of a bigger movement, with a vision of getting schools systematically involved in reforesting degraded areas with mixed tree species in Europe.
Our idea is to create healthy, biodiverse forests with climate-resilient species. Such forests are fundamental to mitigate the severe impacts of global warming on a local scale by absorbing flood water, storing carbon, while at the same time creating habitat for species and reducing erosion and pollution in waterways. The key to successful regeneration is to empower local networks to restore, plant and manage their own local forests. The narrative has to change from tree planting to tree growing and this approach also allows children & youth within these local networks to become active players in restoring their local forest to reverse global warming.
